Why it exists

Luggage is sold on the packing space inside it. Airlines measure the outside. Wheels, handles and feet live in the gap between those two numbers, and that gap is why a bag sold as "carry-on size" gets stopped at the gate.

Almost every source for this is trying to sell you something. We are trying to answer the question.

What we hold

83 airlines, each read from the airline's own baggage page, and 62 bags, of which 61 carry a dimension we are willing to publish.

Only 40 of those may be put forward as a recommendation. The rest are shown but never suggested, because their figures come from a review or from a manufacturer who never said whether wheels were counted. That distinction is the whole ofhow we work it out, and every figure is traceable fromsources.

We have measured exactly 0 bags ourselves. We say so rather than implying otherwise.

What we don't do

We don't review luggage. Whether a bag lasts five years, whether the wheels survive cobblestones, whether the warranty gets honoured — none of that shows up in a dimension, and we have nothing useful to say about any of it.

We also can't promise a gate agent will behave the way a published policy says. Airlines enforce unevenly and change limits without notice. Our verdicts describe the published rule and how strictly that airline is known to apply it. They are not a guarantee.

Money

There is currently no advertising, no sponsorship and no affiliate programme on this site, and nobody pays to appear in it. If that changes, a disclosure will appear in the footer of every page — and it will appear because a programme is live, not because someone remembered to write it.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, we would rather know. An airline changing its limit, a manufacturer publishing a different number, a bag we have filed under the wrong measurement — all of it is worth reporting.
